Instruction Practice 1 - Beginner Moves

Objectives:

  • Learning how to teach the beginner moves

  • No students, only other assistants and instructor

Class Focus:

Floor, vault, and wall - Teaching movements

  • Learn to be concise and quick with the lesson (30secs – 1 minute).  Let the students practice a few times before

  • Avoid over explaining at the start.  Let people move then add extra explanations.

  • If you can have everyone practice something at the same time the better the result may be.

Student discipline

  • Make it about the action, not the person.

  • Help them understand the rules instead of just saying, “you can’t do that.”

  • Help them feel more involved of the community by enlisting their assistance.

Homework:

Part 1 - Practice warm-up/cool-down exercises every night.  Say the moves out loud as you do them.

Part 2 - We practiced explaining movements to each other.  Answer the following questions.

  • What did you find challenging about explaining the moves?

  • What did you learn from trying to explain them? (if anything)

  • What can you improve on going forward? How do you think you'll get there?
